3rd Place: @siraynot
In third place, longtime Potography member and multiple contest winner @siraynot won the crowd with a beautiful photo of a strain called “Tallymon.”
The photo shows a ripening bud looking healthy and happy late in its flowering cycle. The bud pictured is especially cool due to the multiple colors you can see in the pistils. Some are orange and white as usual, but some are more like a pink or red! This is not the most common trait to see in a bud and @siraynot did an excellent job of capturing its beauty.
2nd Place: @cannashotskc
Gassy Cream Cake
In second place, one of our newer members and our June 2022 third place winner @cannashotskc is back with another stunning image. This one caught the eye of almost everyone who browsed the gallery due to its incredible composition and detail.
The second place image is titled “Gassy Cream Cake” and the bud pictured looks like it’s in the same stage of the flowering cycle as the Tallymon pictured above. Many of the pistils have changed from white to orange-brown and the fan leaves have started to fade, but there’s still a ways to go before she’s fully ripe and ready for the chop.
Aside from being taken during the prime of the plant’s lifecycle, this photo stands out thanks to the creative lighting style @cannashotskc used to give it a sort of dark, edgy, and almost mysterious type of vibe. At the same time, all of the important details were maintained and the bud still looks incredible.
1st Place: @astiller
Blueberry Big Devil
In first place, our neighbor from the north Ashlee Stiller aka @ashleestillerphotography is back again with some of her homegrown cannabis photos. Ashlee is one of our OG members and has been one of Potography’s number one supporters since the earliest days of the photo contest.
For our July 2022 contest, @siraynot0 took the top spot with her closeup bud shot of a strain called “Blueberry Big Devil.” The bud she selected for the photoshoot is a beautiful green color with prominent orange pistils. The bud was placed against a flat black background that was slightly accented by the lighting. The end result is a gorgeous bud shot that stands out among the rest in the contest gallery.
We love @siraynot1 work not only because she grows her own bud, but also because her dedication to mastering her craft is contagious. We’re honored to be able to share a part of her cannabis cultivation and photography journey with her and the world and we hope our community has inspired Ashlee as much as she’s inspired us.
Closing Thoughts and Community Updates
Thanks again to everyone who participated in our July 2022 photo contest. Our August contest was a bit delayed due to some scheduled website maintenance and updates, but it’s now live and accepting entries through the 21st.
Speaking of website updates, we’ve officially migrated our site to a new server (again)! This means we have more resources dedicated to providing our community with an even better experience on dev.potography.com now and into the future.
Starting this month (August) we’ll be slowly rolling out some major website updates and new features that will unlock more opportunities for connection and growth for members of our community.
Without giving away too much, one of the features we’re most excited about is the addition of a profile page for each member of our community. This page can serve as a home base for our community members and the larger community of cannabis photographers who are constantly at risk of having accounts on other platforms removed. With this new feature, cannabis photographers will now have a central profile online from which they can link to all of their other profiles, websites, and platforms.
While the member profile page is going to be a huge upgrade on its own, it’s just the tip of the iceberg and we can’t wait to share more.
